Am I Arlen?

I feel that more and more as of late I have become quite disenfranchised with the Republican Party, or rather what the Party has become. While during the Regan years, and the Clinton years as well, the Party was one of Financial scrutiny, National Defense and Moral High-ground, today they stumble around as the "Moral Majority" attempting to hate gays, bitch about spending and attempt to hold on to a past that may have not even been there.

For me the issue is the future. It seems that the Democrats are ready and willing to embrace and look toward the future, a push towards technology and a change from the "business as usual". However the Republicans seems stuck hoping and wishing for a return to the past: a White, Male Driven, Heterosexual, Christian and Family first past. To me this is the scourge of the party, their idea that forward movement is not necessary for progress. This idea stems from the fact that the party, is a party of old people. They have the right ideas about the economy and about a freer, smaller government but on almost everything else their ideas are so antiquated, synonymous with the actual age of the party members.

For the Party to become relevant again they need to get young people excited about putting the government in their hands, about taking part in the work that needs to be done. The party cannot continue on the path that the Bush administration put them on of exclusion, War and secrecy. Its not that the party isn't exciting its that the ideas that are tantamount to the current party leaders are just...old.
